FOP President: IMPD Experiencing a "Mass Exodus" of Officers

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is experiencing a "mass exodus" of police officers, while simultaneously finding it harder and harder to attract qualified candidates to join the force, according to WTTV-TV .

FOP President Rick Snyder said, "Logistically, it does not appear possible to 'outhire' the number of officers that are leaving."

Snyder pointed to the recommendation by the chief of police that two IMPD officers involved in the shooting death of Aaron Bailey be fired as an example of reasons for eroding morale. Those officers were allowed to keep their jobs. 

"Officers feel like they are being treated like the bad guys versus having the support they need," Snyder said.
