FOP Gives Defibrillators to Wyoming Highway Patrol

Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers will now have access to two defibrillators when responding to emergency calls thanks to a donation from the Wyoming Fraternal Order of Police.

The group bought the AEDs through a grant funded by the  Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation , which raises money for first responders. The defibrillators are used to treat sudden cardiac arrest by sending a shock to the heart and cost about $950. The devices will be especially useful in rural areas where it takes more time for ambulances to arrive or for transportation to hospitals.

“Our thanks go out to the FOP for creating this partnership that will have a direct and positive impact on public safety,” Highway Patrol Colonel Kebin Haller said in a news release. “Simply put, having AEDs in our patrol cars will save lives.”

Firehouse Subs awarded a $250,000 grant to the National Fraternal Order of Police, which then distributed the money across local chapters to buy a total of 263 AEDs, including the two donated to the Highway Patrol, the Casper Star-Tribune reports.
