Police say Nicolas Furgason, 21, fled down a cement trail into the woods. Deputy Charles Williams followed in his vehicle and caught up with Furgason on foot.
When Dep. Williams tried to take the man into custody, "Furgason pulled the knife out and stabbed Deputy Williams in the neck before fleeing the area and ignoring verbal commands to stop," the sheriff's office said on Facebook.
Williams pursued the suspect and brought him down with a TASER, according to body camera video. He was taken into custody by Williams and backup deputies.
The wounded deputy was treated and released at a local hospital.
