Florida Officer Falls, Suffers Head Wound During Gunfight with Suspect

An officer with the Leesburg (FL) Police Department was injured during a gunfight with a suspect on Tuesday.

According to Spectrum News , police responded to a call of a man brandishing a firearm and as the first officer to arrive at the scene approached him the assailant opened fire. The officer began to return fire as he backed away.

He then tripped, fell, and suffered an injury to the head.

Other officers arrived and apprehended the suspect, who had fled on foot.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.
