Strawn reportedly transmitted the locations of the murdered family members over the agency's main radio channel, saying that he "caused harm" to them. He then announced his intention to kill himself.
Other deputies tried to convince him to not kill himself, but Straw reportedly turned his gun on himself as deputies arrived at his location.

, this was the second time in recent months that a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy has killed a family member before committing suicide. In September, 39-year-old Deputy Kirk Keithley shot and killed his 33-year-old wife before killing himself.
