Florida Deputy Charged with Battery of Detainee
Deputy Zachary McArthur has been charged with one count of felony battery for the Dec. 9 incident. The deputy is alleged to have battered Justin Johnson while he was being detained at the jail.
An Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff's deputy is facing felony battery charges for a rough detention where he threw a detainee to the floor, causing him to require 11 stitches to his face, reports NorthEscambia.com.
The encounter, which was captured on surveillance video and posted to YouTube, shows the detention.
Deputy Zachary McArthur has been charged with one count of felony battery for the Dec. 9 incident. The deputy is alleged to have battered Justin Johnson while he was being detained at the jail.
Johnson went to Chan's Nightclub on Dec. 8, a week after a deputy had told him to leave the business. Deputy McArthur and a bouncer snatched him from his seat and placed him in the deputy's cruiser.
Johnson told investigators that he was never told he was under arrest. He said that he remembered arriving at the Escambia County Jail where his head was slammed into something before blood poured down his face.
