Florida Agency Uses Grant Funds to Buy Steel-Plate Body Armor for Active-Shooter Response

The City Council in Orlando, Florida has accepted grant funds targeted for the purchase of steel plate body armor for use in response to active shooter and other high-risk situations.

According to the Orlando Sentinel , a $54,976 grant from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will go toward purchasing 162 vests.

The Paraclete vests—which will be stored in the trunks of patrol vehicles—will protect responding officers from rifle fire. Standard duty body armor is only rated to stop smaller caliber bullets.
