Today, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association (FLEOA) Foundation announced its support for President-elect Trump's consideration of Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke as the next leader of the Department of Homeland Security.

In a letter dated November 26th to Vice President-elect Mike Pence, FLEOA Foundation President Jon Adler stated in part, "Sheriff Clarke's national leadership and voice have been the beacon of hope for all law enforcement officers the past few years. Our country needs action and not bureaucratic bluster, and the Sheriff has proven himself to be a no-nonsense leader who bleeds blue for our country."

According to Adler, "While the cause of this is debatable, the scent of blood has been fanned across our great nation inciting the zombie fringe to attack law enforcement officers. Sheriff Clarke brings the unwavering leadership we need to cleanse the air and eradicate the notion that it's okay to attack law enforcement and the American citizenry."

Since 2010, the number of fatal ambush attacks committed against law enforcement has risen by 300% from the equivalent preceding years. According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), 61 officers have been killed by gunfire this year, and 21 of those were ambush attacks. This is the highest number of fatal ambush attacks since 1995. The FLEOA Foundation maintains that the protection of all law enforcement officers is critical to the preservation of our democracy, and keeping law enforcement and the American citizenry safe requires strong leadership.

Adler concluded, "Sheriff Clarke embodies the spirit of 'Make America Safe Again,' and will take clear and decisive action to better protect our homeland. The FLEOA Foundation applauds the President-elect's Transition Team for their hard work, and I'm confident they will continue to choose wisely. I ask that they pray for the safety of all our law enforcement officers upholding the thin blue line."
