FBI agents arrested a San Antonio police officer Thursday for allegedly accepting $500 from a man he arrested on a drug charge in exchange for not filing charges.
Officer Curtis Lundy has been charged with theft of honest services by wire fraud, the FBI announced. On Dec. 15, Officer Lundy responded to a call of an assault in progress at Northside apartment complex. Officer Lundy detained a subject for possession of marijuana. The officer said he would hold off filing the charge in exchange for $400, according to the FBI.
During follow-up calls, Officer Lundy raised the payment to $500. The man contacted the FBI, which initiated surveillance of Officer Lundy, including recording telephone conversations with the subject.
On Thursday afternoon, Officer Lundy met the subject to collect the $500. Officer Lundy arrived in a marked patrol vehicle and collected an envelope from the subject which contained $500. Authorities arrested Officer Lundy last night after his shift was completed.
Officer Lundy faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a maximum $250,000 fine.
