The family of Chicago Police Officer Thor Soderberg has decided not to have a police honors funeral and instead will have a private wake and "memorial celebration" on Thursday, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Soderberg was killed Wednesday by Bryant Brewer, 24, a man with a history of crime and mental derangement.
Scott Simon of NPR produced a celebration of Soderberg, called "Honoring An Officer's Life, Artfully Lived," in which he reports on the officer's relationship with Mazen Istanbouli, a DePaul University political science professor and blind tri-athlete. Soderberg was also a tri-athlete.
