The family of an officer with the MIT Police Department who was killed in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings is urging the public to support law enforcement.
According to NBC News, the family of Sean Collier—who was killed in an attack by the two brothers who had just set off bombs at the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2013—published a full-page newspaper advertisement asking the community to remember the sacrifices that law enforcement officers make.
Nicole Lynch—Collier's sister—said that the family's decision to publish the advertisement was in response to anti-police sentiment that has been increasing across the country.
"Sean was a person behind the badge, and his ultimate goal in life was to help people and to serve his community," said Lynch, who believes that goal is shared by most police officers.
