The family of a toddler who was given life-saving medical aid on the side of the road met on Monday with the Border Patrol agent who administered CPR to the child, reports Tucson.com.
The family, from Naco, Sonora, visited with Agent Jed Eckler at the Brian A. Terry Station to express their gratitude for his actions, according to a news release from Customs and Border Protection.
On Jan. 17, Eckler was on his way home from work when he encountered the family, which had pulled over to the side of the road on Arizona 92 near Hereford. The parents told Eckler that their son was not breathing.
Eckler began performing CPR on the child until he regained consciousness and began breathing. He contacted emergency personnel and the boy was taken to a hospital by the Palominas Fire Department, and has since been released.
Monday was the first chance the family got to meet with Eckler, who works as a K-9 handler for the agency. He presented the boy with a K-9 plush toy.
