Fallen Ind. Officer Laid to Rest

Thousands of officers and other well-wishers paid their respects at a Wednesday memorial service to a fallen Indianapolis Metro Police officer who was shot during a hostage situation.

Officer Rod Bradway was "not only an outstanding officer but a tremendous father," Public Safety Director Troy Riggs said at Crown Hill Cemetery before a public visitation. The formal memorial service was Thursday, reports the Indianapolis Star .

On Wednesday, city leaders presented the department's highest aware, the Medal of Honor, to Officer Bradway's widow, Jamie, and his two children.

Officer Bradway was killed while attempting to rescue a woman and young child from a man holding them hostage on Sept. 20.
