A former Sacramento (Calif.) Police officer will spend one year in jail, following his conviction for lying about dozens of DUI arrests. Brandon Mullock, 28, resigned in August 2010 after three years on the force.
As a result, the district attorney had to dismiss 79 cases in which Mullock was the principle witness. In 73 of the cases, the arrests led to convictions and had to be overturned, reports CBS Sacramento.
A criminal investigation revealed numerous false statements made in police reports and under oath. Blood tests revealed that many of the suspects were under the influence.
Mullock hasn't explained his motive for the false statements, and his fiancee told the Sacramento Bee that he "was just not cut out for a job like this." Mullock reportedly loved police work but couldn't handle the pressures that come along with it.
