DHS Blue Campaign Announces New Partnership to Combat Human Trafficking
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today announced a new partnership between the DHS Blue Campaign and the Birmingham mayor's office to raise public awareness on how to recognize human trafficking.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) today announced a new partnership between the DHS Blue Campaign, the unified voice for DHS's efforts to combat human trafficking, and Birmingham, AL, Mayor William A. Bell's Office to post Blue Campaign materials throughout the city in order to raise public awareness on how to recognize human trafficking.
"The DHS Blue Campaign is pleased to have Birmingham as a partner in the fight against human trafficking," said DHS Blue Campaign Chair Maria Odom. "Partnerships like these enable us to help citizens recognize and report this heinous crime. We will continue to work with state and local partners across the country to help save lives and bring perpetrators to justice."
Through this partnership, Blue Campaign tools and resources, including posters, will be placed at transportation hubs throughout the City of Birmingham to help local residents identify and recognize indicators of human trafficking and to help potential victims seek support. In addition, these materials will be distributed to all public safety personnel to provide them with information on how to report suspected cases of human trafficking.
The DHS Blue Campaign works in collaboration with law enforcement, government, non-governmental and private organizations, to protect the basic right of freedom and to bring those who exploit human lives to justice.
Today's announcement, as part of National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month, is one of the numerous ways the Department is working to end human trafficking and continuing to bring awareness to this terrible crime.
