Robbinsville Township Police Department
The Robbinsville Township Police Department (NJ) released a video showing the moment one of its officers was struck by a passing car while he was standing on the roadside assisting a motorist. He was released from the hospital two days later.
Patrolman Connor Boyle, 25, sustained a broken leg, cuts on his face, and a concussion in the incident that was captured on dashcam video this past weekend.
The department released the video to remind drivers of the state’s Move Over Law.
“Research shows many drivers believe that moving over is simply an optional courtesy when they see law enforcement vehicles, other emergency vehicles, tow trucks and other public assistance vehicles on the side of the road. Let’s be clear: It is not optional. It is the law! We need to keep our first responders and vehicle assistance workers safe,” the department states in a social media post.
The officer was speaking with the driver of a disabled vehicle about 11:30 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a passing Volkswagen Passat, reports FOX 29 .
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle, identified as 52-year-old Rachel Glatt, did not stop, and was later arrested at her home in nearby East Windsor. She has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault on a police officer and fourth-degree assault by auto, as well as several traffic violations. According to police, this is her second hit-and-run arrest.
