Dallas On Pace for Highest Murder Rate in More Than a Decade

The Dallas Police Department—suffering a dearth of homicide detectives—is on pace to record more murders than the city has had in more than a decade.
According to ABC News, as of the beginning of December there were 192 murders, putting the city on pace to have at least 200 homicides this year. The last time the number of homicides reached 200 in Dallas was 2007.
Records reveal that 127 murder victims so far in 2019 were African American, 46 were Latinos, 17 were Caucasian and two were Asian Americans.
The Dallas Police Department currently employs 12 homicide detectives, and is seeking to add to those ranks.
