A Dallas police officer was given full honors this week, 25 years after his death and 51 years after he was shot multiple times while on duty.

"I know how much my dad loved being a Dallas policeman and how much it meant to him to do that job. And when he couldn't, I know he was devastated," said his daughter, Kim Black.

Sergeant Claude C.W. Standridge was celebrated for his service. He was shot in the line of duty in 1972. Only now has his death been linked to his injuries and declared a line-of-duty death, Fox 4 reports.
"I know how much my dad loved being a Dallas policeman and how much it meant to him to do that job. And when he couldn't, I know he was devastated," said his daughter, Kim Black.
Standridge joined the department in 1954. In 1972, he was shot in the face, neck and stomach during a traffic stop. He returned to work for 18 more years but suffered multiple setbacks and surgeries.
He retired on disability in 1990 and died in 1998.
