The Medford (Ore.) Police Department won the lottery Wednesday, after an appellate court awarded the agency a $1 million scratcher illegally purchased by a woman in 2005.

The agency won its court battle with Christina Elizabeth Goodenow, 45, who argued that it was excessive punishment to strip her of the $1 million in winnings, reports the Mail Tribune .
