Coroner Says MS Police Recruit Died by Suicide at Academy

A Jackson, MS, police recruit died Monday at the city training academy, city officials said.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart said Tuesday that the unnamed recruit "took his own life by gunfire,” WAPT reports.

The recruit’s name was not released.

Training was suspended Monday at the academy, and grief counselors were called in, authorities said.
