A Georgia judge sentenced a convicted cop killer to serve life in prison plus 375 years Friday for the malice murder of a police officer in 2015 and 30 other crimes.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Jane Barwick sentenced Amanuel Menghesha in the death of Detective Terrence Green, a 22-year veteran of the Fulton County Police Department, reports WSB-TV. Mengshesha accepted a negotiated plea agreement in lieu of a death penalty trial.

“While we cannot bring back Detective Green, we hope this guilty plea and sentence brings relief and a sense of justice to his family, friends and colleagues,” says Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in a statement.

Green was one of four officers that responded to a shots fired call on March 15, 2015. Police say Menghesha left that area but then ambushed the officers nearby in a dense fog as he opened fire with an AK-47. 

Police reported one round struck Green in the back of the head and he later died at Grady Memorial Hospital. Menghesha was ultimately shot multiple times and taken into custody.

“We want to wrap our arms around Detective Green's family and pray that they and all officers involved are finally able to find some comfort and healing with this conviction,” states a post by the Fulton County Police Department following the sentencing.
