A man serving life behind bars for a quadruple murder is back in custody after a brazen escape from a Michigan prison late Sunday, reports The New York Daily News.
Michael David Elliot, 40, abducted a woman and stole her car before she managed to get away in Indiana, authorities said. On Monday, he ditched the woman's red Jeep in Shipshewana, Ind., and was later arrested following a car chase in LaPorte County, WNDU-TV reported.
Elliott escaped the Ionia Correctional Facility, which is about 40 miles west of Lansing, around 6:30 p.m. Sunday. But authorities didn't realize he was missing until about three hours later.
Investigators believe Elliot, who had been locked up in the facility since 1994, pushed apart two prison fences - electrified and armed with motion sensors - with his hands and escaped while wearing a civilian white kitchen uniform.
