According to the News Times , Paul Arbitelle—who was shot and killed at an apartment complex over the weekend—had a checkered past of hate crimes and assaults against police officers.
Among his numerous tattoos, Arbitelle had a screaming skull on his face and “white power” on his back.

Arbitelle pleaded guilty to charges of third-degree assault and interfering with the duties of a police officer and was sentenced to a year in prison in connection with the assault.
Arbitelle was holding a knife when he charged an officer, who first deployed a TASER, and then opened fire when the device failed to stop the assailant's approach.
A woman in the apartment where the incident took place was also wounded. She is reportedly related to the knife-wielding subject.
