Authorities have arrested a Connecticut man and U.S. citizen of Pakistani origins in connection with the failed attempt to detonate a car bomb in Times Square, several media outlets are reporting.
The man, who has been identified as 30-year-old Faisal Shahzad, was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents at JFK International Airport at midnight as he attempted to board a flight to Dubai, Attorney General Eric Holder announced in a brief press conference at 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Agents from the Joint Terrorist Task Force identified Shahzad, who had recently returned from a trip to Pakistan, on Monday, the New York Times reports.
Federal authorities continue to investigate the attempted bombing for others who may be involved, Holder said.
"We continue to pursue a number of leads," Holder said. "But it's clear the intent behind this terrorist act was to kill Americans … This investigation is ongoing. It is multifaceted, and it is aggressive."
Shahzad is believed to have purchased the 1993 Nissan Pathfinder in Connecticut via Craigslist that was found loaded with propane, gasoline, and fireworks in Times Square on Saturday.
