Chief Stephens said the wounded officer was taken to the hospital and is reportedly in serious but stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit. His name has not been released at request of his family.
The drive-by shooting report came in around midnight. Officers responded and approached a car that was reportedly involved in the incident. One of the occupants of the car took off running, according to Chief Stephens.
As officers closed on the suspect, the suspect turned and fired multiple times at one of the officers, Stephens said.
The wounded officer was reportedly hit in the extremities—both legs and an arm—and possibly in the torso above his body armor. The chief said other rounds were stopped by the officer's vest.
