Officers with the Fountain (CO) Police Department are now welcoming a new K-9 to the ranks, according to a post the agency made on social media earlier this week.
The agency said on Facebook, "The Fountain Police Department is now the proud owner of a new K-9 who will be trained and certified in narcotics detection. Our new K-9 needed a name so we polled our officers in order to find the right name for our new partner. We wanted to share with you the back-story on how the name was chosen."
The agency explained that the name is in honor of Marshal John Lindamood, who was shot and killed in 1921. At the time of his death, Lindamood was 45 years old.
The social media post concluded, "As a tribute to Marshall Lindamood, and in recognition of the upcoming 100th anniversary of his Line of Duty Death, the Fountain Police Department is naming the newest member of the Fountain Police K-9 Unit, Moody. This name is a modified version of Marshall Lindamood's last name."
Moody and his handler will attend the Johnson K-9 Training Academy next month. Once they graduate the academy, they will patrol the streets and assist in detecting the presence of illegal narcotics.
