City Pays $1.8M In Fatal Police Shooting of Philly Bystander

The city of Philadelphia has agreed to pay $1.8 million to the family of a man killed by stray police gunfire during the pursuit of an armed suspect on New Year's Eve 2008.

During the gunfire, 11 police rounds entered an East Germantown house. Bullets struck three people including Abebe Isaac, 33, who later died.

The District Attorney's Office in 2010 cleared Officer George Marko of criminal charges for firing into the home, saying his actions were justified. Marko and his partner had spotted a man firing celebratory gunshots at midnight, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer .
