To control spiraling costs, the Los Angeles City Council has agreed to put a measure on the March 2011 ballot that would reduce benefits for new police and fire workers, reports the Daily News.
If voters approve the March 8 measure, the city is estimated to save $152 million over 10 years by requiring new hires to work longer and pay more into retirement and health care systems than current workers.
