Chicago's Top Cop Declares End to Lawsuit Settlements
"I have asked the Department of Law to litigate those cases which would have been settled [as] a matter of financial concern," Supt. Jody Weis told the judge in a July 23 letter obtained by the Sun-Times.

Weis has asked the city to become more aggressive in fighting lawsuits he views as "meritless" by going to trial instead of settling them.
Last month, Weis notified Chief U.S. District Judge James F. Holderman of the change in strategy.
