An officer with the Chicago Police Department was transported to a nearby hospital after the squad car she was in tumbled over an interstate overpass to another roadway 25 feet below.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the female officer—whose name has not yet been released—missed the turn she had intended to take and her patrol vehicle left the roadway, causing it to crash through a guardrail and fall to the ground below.
According to reports, the crash caused disruption to some power lines but service was quickly restored.
The freeway was briefly closed to traffic but soon thereafter reopened after the officer was taken from the area for medical treatment.
Two officers were shot in Gainesville, Florida, by a man who police say was leaving an area where he had killed a man inside a business. The suspect exited his vehicle in what the chief termed an “ambush-style” attack.
