The Chicago Board of Education voted 4-3 Wednesday to keep School Resource Officers in city schools.
According to ABC News , the number of SROs assigned to schools will now be determined by local school councils.

As the debate over the matter was underway, several hundred people marched and rallied in a demonstration organized by the Chicago Teachers Union.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot and other city officials have fought against the blanket removal of SROs, saying it should be up to each individual school's local community of parents and teachers.
Critics of the funding for police officers in schools say that they would rather use the funding social workers, counselors and nurses to address the trauma students face in communities hit hard by gun violence.
