Chicago Officer Shot in Knee Now Listed in Good Condition

An officer with the Chicago Police Department was shot in the knee on Monday night while attempting to apprehend an individual who was wanted for an aggravated assault with a handgun earlier this month.

According to the Chicago Tribune , police say that as officers approached the subject—who has not yet been identified by name—the individual drew a handgun and opened fire, striking one of the officers at the scene.

The officer was then transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is now listed in good condition.

The department said in a statement that officers did not return fire, but that the subject was taken into custody.

Charges against the suspect are pending.
