Chicago Academy Class Includes Daughter of Fallen Officer

The Chicago Police Department welcomed a class of academy graduates for the first time in a year, as 50 recruits joined the force on Wednesday.

Among the recruits was Jada Bailey, the daughter of fallen Officer Michael Bailey , who was gunned down in the line of duty in the summer of 2010.

"My father would just be so proud of me right now," Bailey told ABC News . "And I know he's looking down, and I know he's excited, and I'm sure that I'll do him well."

The department currently has about 12,000 sworn officers and loses about 600 each year due to retirement or resignation.

On Thursday, Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced his decision to consolidate Chicago Police district stations and detective divisions, a move that will reduce the number of district stations from 25 to 22 by the fall. The number of detective divisions has been cut from five to three, CBS News reports.
