Canadian Officer Dies by Suicide in Headquarters Parking Lot

An officer with the Toronto Police Service reportedly died by suicide late last week.

According to the Toronto Sun , Officer Mike Austin had been suffering from psychological, emotional, and physical pain for a period of time following traumatic events on duty and off.

He had come under fire in 2006 and survived. Then, in 2015 his daughter died by suicide.

Austin reportedly went into the parking garage of the department's headquarters building on Thursday night and took his own life.

Chief Mark Saunders said on Twitter the following morning, "It is with great sorrow that I share that we lost a member of the Toronto Police family last night."
