California Police Thwart Possible Mass Shooting Attack
Police in Long Beach arrested a man who threatened to commit a mass shooting at his workplace this week.
Police in Long Beach, CA, arrested a man who threatened to commit a mass shooting at his workplace later this week.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the man—identified as 37-year-old Rodolfo Montoya—worked at the Long Beach Marriott, and was taken into custody Tuesday at his home in Huntington Beach.
Montoya was reportedly angry about a human resources issue and told a colleague he would come back to the facility and shoot as many people as he could.
That employee notified supervisors, who then contacted police.
During the arrest, police seized several firearms and several hundred rounds of ammunition.
Montoya is the fourth potential mass killer to be thwarted in the span of just over a week.
Police in Connecticut, Florida, and Ohio arrested three men in the span of two days, potentially preventing three separate but unrelated mass shooting plots.
According to USA Today, all three men posted online or sent threatening text messages, leading citizens to tip off local police.
In Connecticut, police arrested 22-year-old Brandon Wagshol after a joint investigation from the Norwalk police and the FBI.
In Florida, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office arrested 25-year-old Tristan Scott Wix and charged him with making threats to commit a mass shooting.
In Ohio, police arrested 20-year-old James Reardon after the FBI investigated a social media post in which he identified himself as the gunman in a mass shooting at a Jewish community center—an event that hadn't yet taken place.
