California Police Release Video of Pursuit and Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting
During the pursuit, the suspect opened fire on a pursuing officer and at a Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy’s patrol vehicle, police say. One round hit the deputy’s patrol vehicle.

The Elk Grove (California) Police Department has released video from a fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred Feb. 1, 2025.
Police say the incident began when a man fled an attempted traffic stop. The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Jonnie Bartholomew, led an Elk Grove officer on a pursuit through a residential area, according to the official police video.

The officer followed Bartholomew into a neighborhood and was joined by a second officer. They attempted to use their patrol vehicles to block the suspect’s vehicle but he drove between them and back onto city streets. The officers pursued.

The pursuit continued on state road 99 (99 freeway) and on surface streets. During the pursuit, Bartholomew reached speeds of more than 100 mph and drove the wrong way at times.
An Elk Grove officer was able to stop Bartholomew’s vehicle with a PIT maneuver, police say.
The suspect was ordered to put his hands up and not to move. Instead, the video shows him driving into a patrol vehicle in an attempt to escape.
After the police vehicle was rammed, two officers opened fire.
Bartholomew was hit and died at the scene.
A female was removed from the passenger seat. She was unharmed, police say.
