Officers had reportedly responded to a report of a machete assault. When they arrived, they found that a 57-year-old man — who was known to the suspect — had been injured by a machete.
When an officer located the suspect, he began swinging it at the officer. The officer reportedly commanded the suspect several times to drop the chain, then fired an ECD device.
When the ECD failed to be effective, according to

in San Diego, the officer fired his duty pistol, striking the suspect at least once, police said.
The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries.
The machete assault victim also received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer involved was not injured, according to reports.
