A 25-year-old man who was convicted of second-degree murder and vehicular manslaughter in the 2014 death of an officer with the Los Angeles (CA) Police Department has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to NBC News .
Mynor Enrique Varela struck and killed LAPD Officer Roberto Sanchez—a 32-year-old newlywed at the time of his death—with his SUV and then fled the scene. Sanchez's partner—Richard Medina—suffered a broken jaw and other injuries in the collision.
