Pomona, CA, police Monday evening responded to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center after being notified by hospital security that they had located a possible pipe bomb on a patient.
Hospital security told police they discovered a PVC pipe with end caps and a fuse on a patient who was brought in by ambulance from West Covina, KTLA reports.
The device was found by an explosives detection K-9 at the hospital, the Pomona Police Department stated in a news release.
The Pomona Police Department was able to determine that Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center was not the target of the device. At this time, police report they do not believe there was a specific target, and the suspect was only in possession of the device.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department bomb squad responded to the hospital and took possession of the device.
