A central California police officer was shot and mortally wounded Tuesday after he was flagged down by a homeowner about a trespassing suspect.
Selma Police Officer Gonzalo Carrasco Jr. was fatally shot around 11:45 a.m. He died at an area hospital.

A central California police officer was shot and mortally wounded Tuesday after he was flagged down by a homeowner about a trespassing suspect.
Selma Police Officer Gonzalo Carrasco Jr. was fatally shot around 11:45 a.m. He died at an area hospital.
Carrasco served with the Selma Police Department for two years and was part of the Explorer Program at the Reedley Police Department. He was an expectant father, KMPH reports.

The suspect has been identified as 23-year-old Nathaniel Dixon of Selma. He was arrested Tuesday afternoon and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
Fresno County Sheriff John Zanoni said Dixson is on probation for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
