Boston’s Toys For Tickets Benefits Toys For Tots

In a unique show of holiday spirit, the City of Boston is allowing some motorists to donate new toys to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign in lieu of paying fines to the city in cash.

Motorists who received tickets issued Dec. 1, 2, or 3 can pay their fines off in toys worth the same amount as that owed, as long as they weren’t for violations issued for public safety reasons. Offenders must also provide a sales receipt for the items.

“I think it should go longer—maybe any ticket in December,” said Theresa Labriola, who dropped off two dolls at City Hall to pay for her $20 violation for an expired registration sticker.

Boston began the Toys-For-Tickets campaign in 1999.
