Border Patrol agents disrupted an operation by drug smugglers attempting to use a medieval-style catapult to launch bundles of marijuana over the border fence.
The smugglers were observed by a remote video surveillance system on Friday, triggering a response by National Guard troops and Mexican authorities who disrupted the operation, reports KVOA.
The smugglers fled the area and were apprehended by Mexican authorities, who seized about 45 pounds of marijuana, a sport utility vehicle and the catapult device.
