Provost — who had been acting chief since April 2017 — joined the Border Patrol in 1995 as a bike patrol agent in Douglas, AZ, according to Fox News.
She worked in top management positions in El Paso, TX, and El Centro, CA, before transferring to Border Patrol headquarters in 2015, where she focused on efforts to clamp down on corruption, misconduct, and mismanagement.
Women in the Border Patrol make up only about 5% of the Border Patrol Agents, according to the New York Times.
