According to the Baltimore Sun , Sergeant Michael Mancuso—president of the police union—said the city isn't offering competitive enough packages to attract officers, and isn't doing enough to train the number of recruit classes it would take to have recruitment outpace attrition.
Meanwhile, former New Orleans Police Superintendent Michael Harrison will reportedly earn an annual salary of $275,000 per year in a five-year-contract that could also include 3% raises each year.
According to NOLA.com , if Harrison succeeds in driving down crime in historically troubled Baltimore, he could see higher raises.
The starting salary for Baltimore Police Department officers is roughly $52,000.
