A new category of easier-to-issue, eco-friendly visitor badges has been introduced by Badgetec. The badges are provided as die-cut sheets of printable cardstock or white polyester for increased durability, according to the company.

Once printed, separated and issued, they are worn on the garment with a new type of clothing clip, the Contour Clip or with any standard lanyard. No adhesive or plastic holder is used. Besides the lower cost and recyclable materials, they are more stylish, easier-to-wear and substantially reduce the work to issue visitor badges.

By using die-cut sheets without the need for plastic holders, the badges are more eco-friendly and substantially lower-cost.  They are also lighter-in-weight and easier-to-read. The Contour Clip attaches through the die-cut slot in the badge and attaches to ones clothing like a "paperclip." The clip employs two flat fingers similar to paperclips that clamp over an edge of the collar, lapel or pocket. These wide flat fingers provide increased grip while not producing creases or holes in the fabric like traditional pins and bulldog clips. Furthermore, because the badge is attached directly to a round post on the clip, it rotates to remain straight—permitting the badge to be attached in any orientation. With the Contour Clip "paperclip" attachment, the clip slides on by tactile-feel alone.

Being the first new clothing attachment is almost 100 years, the Contour Clip employs a new mechanical principle and the patent (issued September 2012) compares this new attachment-means to 18th Century pins and alligator clips when fabrics were less delicate.

The die-cut sheet concept provides a new category of diverse badges and personal tags, of which Visitor badges as just one type. Badges and tags are now printed with barcodes and QR codes, along with titles, organizations and graphics for Smartphone recording.

Standard 8.5x11 inch die-cut sheets have slots punched at the top of each tag (round, rectangular or other shapes) for attaching the clip. In addition, these standard size sheets can be printed using Microsoft Word (AVERY) templates on most office laser/inkjet printers. One then simply separates the badges from the sheet and issues them.
