Attorney for Family of Philadelphia Man Killed by Police Says Officers Should Not Face Murder Charges

The attorney representing the family of Walter Wallace Jr.—who was killed by police during a call for service of a mental health crisis—told reporters on Thursday that the officers involved should not be charged with murder. He said the officers lacked training and equipment to handle the situation.

According to Reuters , attorney Shaka Johnson made his determination about the prospect of charges after viewing body-worn camera video footage in which Wallace refused to comply with commands to drop the knife he was holding, and instead charged at officers.

The family—including Wallace's mother and wife who were at the scene at the time of the incident—also viewed the video and agreed that the officers should not be charged.
