Attacker's Gun Malfunction Saves Canadian Officer from Off-Duty Shooting
President of the Winnipeg Police Association Moe Sabourin told 680 CJOB that the incident occurred when the officer was walking to his vehicle after a tour of duty.
A Winnipeg, Canada, police officer was saved from a potentially fatal off-duty shooting Sunday morning when his attacker's gun apparently failed to fire.
President of the Winnipeg Police Association Moe Sabourin told 680 CJOB that the incident occurred when the officer was walking to his vehicle after a tour of duty.
"It’s clear the individual knew the member was a police officer based on the comments that were made,” said Sabourin.
Winnipeg Police dispute Sabourin's story. In a release Monday afternoon, they said the officer saw a gun being drawn as he was driving away, following a conversation with the suspect, and no shots were fired.
Generally, Canadian municipal police officers are not allowed to carry off duty.
