ATF Chief who Oversaw Fast and Furious To Step Down

Kenneth Melson, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives chief who has been under fire for the Fast and Furious initiative, has told supervisors he will resign his post, several media outlets are reporting.

Melson, who made the announcement today in a conference call with supervisors, is moving back to the Department of Justice to serve as a senior adviser with the Office of Legal Programs.

News of Melson's departure was reported by several media outlets in June, amid reports that Andrew Traver, who runs ATF's Chicago office, would be offered the job.
