The Beebe (AR) Police Department posted on Facebook that on the morning of July 18, 2018, Officer Andrew Napolitano was leaving his residence with his two children and was preparing to head to work when he noticed a white male — later identified as 22-year-old Cody Ramsey — sitting inside of a parked pickup truck beside his police vehicle.
"Officer Napolitano asked Ramsey if he was waiting on someone, to which Ramsey stated no," the department post said. "Officer Napolitano informed him that the area was private property and asked him to leave the property."
Ramsey then leaned forward in his car seat and pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and pointed it at Officer Napolitano’s face, according to police.
The department's Facebook post continues, "Officer Napolitano drew his duty weapon and ordered Ramsey to drop the gun — the subject complied with commands and dropped the gun. Officer Napolitano then ordered Ramsey out of the vehicle.
"Upon exiting the vehicle, Ramsey resisted arrest and physically assaulted Napolitano as well as a nearby citizen who came to Napolitano's aid, but was eventually taken into custody once backup officers arrived on scene.
"Subsequent to his arrest, Ramsey admitted to preplanning the attack. He was arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Battery in the second degree on a law enforcement officer and one count of carrying a weapon."
