Americans Celebrate National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day
Across the country and across social media, American police supporters showed their respect and admiration for police officers on Wednesday as they celebrated National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, which occurs every year on January 9.

Facebook and Twitter were peppered with posts of images of a Thin Blue Line flag, and people out on the streets selected their best blue attire to wear as a demonstration of their support for police. Others participated in Project Blue Light by displaying a blue light in their front window or on their front porch.
Parents encouraged children to draw pictures to send to their local police departments, and many television and radio news programs did lengthy news segments shining a positive light on law enforcement, such as Fox5 , News Channel 6 , WFSB , WESH , and others. WDEA AM130 posted a YouTube video of Paul Harvey's famous narration of his essay "The Policeman." You can see that video below.
National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day was started by Concerns of Police Survivors, a nonprofit organization founded in 1984 to assist the family members and survivors of law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
